Troodos Safari (From Limassol)
We begin this journey traveling through rugged hills and valleys,
passing by "Kourris", the largest dam and man made lake in Cyprus. We
continue off road passing the picturesque village of "Ayios Mamas". Next
we travel through the "Mesa Potamos" region. Following the river
upstream, we stroll to the small picturesque waterfall of this region.
Our next stop is an old abounded monastery
which together with the eerie silence stirs up visions of a time long
past. We stop for refreshments at "Kilada". Heading towards "Platres" we
reach the spectacular "Caledonian Falls"- the largest waterfalls on the
island – named after the scented Caledonia trees, which surround them.
Here for the more adventurous is the start of an optional 2km nature
trail, climbing towards the "Troodos" plateau. Here we meet our jeeps
and continue our journey to the highest peak of the island, "Mount
Olympus". Reaching a height of 6988 feet, we stand on the throne of
ancient Godsand marvel at the panoramic views! (Do not forget your
camera). Traveling through pinewoods we reach the village of "Pedoulas"
nesting in the valley. the perfect stop for us to enjoy the traditional
Cypriot meal with plenty of Cyprus wine and fruit juice for children. We
continue to the famous "Kykko" Byzantine Monastery. Housing the icon of
The Virgin Mary painted by St. Luke, and many mosaics covered by gold
leaf. We begin our descent via "Milikouri" village passing through
different terrain of lush green valleys and sleepy villages dotted on
the hillsides.
Our route is towards "Ayios Nicolaos" village , and back to Limassol.
